My son Darren was no more than 10 years old and weighed about 65 pounds. With the back pack he was wearing it put his total weight around 100. We were doing some hiking and camping in what was then, for us, an unexplored region of an area of Upstate New York called Bear Mountain. There really is a Bear Mountain. The actual mountain is tucked into a much larger geographic area called Harriman State Park. On a map you can look just south of West Point, and west of the Bear Mountain Bridge. On a quiet Sunday morning while waking up in one of the several stone shelters nestled on top of these rolling mountains, we could hear the distant reports of canon fire summoning the Cadets to revile. This area was to provide us with some of the finest "Adventures" a father and son could experience. It was there that we first discovered, "The Lost Town of Doodletown". Come back with us now. It's only about an hour into the woods. The trails are wide and there is a warm sun in the sky.
