Bear Mountain 1776 Trail

1776 Trail

The 1776 Trail was once known as Pleasant Valley Rd. before the giant oaks and pines joined the flowers and weeds to break up what was once a tar road through Doodletown. Many years before that it was the scene of thousands of troops marching south to join other forces engaged in the Revolutionary War.

That day it was a hushed oasis, muffling the sound of distant engines. The old trail was filled with dappled sunlight, that magnified the glow of thousands of yellow wildflowers. No sounds, no troops, just two hikers, crunching dried leaves underfoot, on an ancient road to nowhere.
